Title: Message
no...when I wrote the script, the service needed restarting constantly.  it was an emergency measure that just stuck.  you do what you got to do in order to keep services up.....u know

I never checked to see if the problem goes away w/out running the script.  This customer is migrating away from the IMail so it's a moot issue.

So you don't actually test to see if the service needs restarting... you just do it?

It's an easy script.  net stop and then net start, run on the scheduler service.

restartmail.bat

net stop QueueMgr
net stop symcscan
net stop sswchdog
d:\imail\isplcln.exe -n 3
net start symcscan
net start QueueMgr

run that every 15 minutes.  It has almost completely eliminated the problem.

Barry,

Is this script something you could share with us?

nope...no log info.

Let me correct myself...it doesn't stop, it HANGS.  'stop pending'  I had to write a script to pre-empt the hang and restart the service.  I searched and searched and never found any info on this issue.

Is there anything in your logs when it stops?

It stops on me all the time.  I reduced myself to a script to check it every few minutes and kick it in.

I haven’t followed this thread.  Are you saying the service under windows is stopping?

This may sound like a strange question, but in this case what account is considered the Administrator?

in a perfect world that works great but in this case QM is not restarting.

:(

Tripp Allen wrote:

Actually it already does this.  When the queue manager shuts itself
down, SMTPD will restart it within two minutes (if you have the
auto-restart option on).  The queue manager looks for locked files
(files that were in process of delivery), renames them, and drops an
error count line in the Q  file.  If this happens to a file five times,
the file is orphaned and a message is sent to the administrator about
the problem.

Are there any error messages in the logs?  Look for ERR 005; you'll
usually see this before the queue manager shuts itself down due to a
fatal error.

Perhaps this is a good one for the enhancements wishlist.

When QM starts up, it could first do a scan of the log file and remove
or
rename any of the offending messages automatically.  It could then send
a
notification to the server admin (already used for things like number of

messages sent, etc..).

It beats the alternative resulting in a down server.
