We used to have the problem of   nonexistent  email recipients  as someone
created a bogus list of 1000's of these accounts and sold it on the net-

After getting our server slammed for weeks-- we put up mailgate- just
alowing mail to our real users-- what a relief that was

We also had the problem of Spam being sent from our free users---    so I
had to allow for 2 users per email--  that worked
