I fixed the problem.
I checked the registry of both servers and found that the "AuthDatabaseDLL"
was different from my original server. When changing this, It worked

Subject: RE: [IMail Forum] Maybe a silly question (External DB)

My guess is that the database you created (or if an existing) is
not correct (new fields are often added when a version change
takes place).

What happens when you use a different/new ODBC DB for IMail? If
you find that it works OK and you can add and see new users, that
would tend to confirm my guess and mean that there are new fields
that needed to be added to your existing DB for 2006. Check
Release Notes for database updates.

Is your database on a different computer than IMail 2006? If so,
again there is a KB article that may help:
http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/IM-20051206-DM07.htm

I don't know if it is possible to access the same database with
multiple IMail servers, so please have only one at a time.

I would expect the users folders to be in the location you
specified during install, so I don't see this as a problem,
unless the path you show is not the installed path. Users are
stored in the registry when using the IMail DB and user folders
are always stored on disk.

Please answer all my questions...
If you own IMail, I'd suggest you contact Support.

No, you need to use a browser to administrate IMail and the other
components.

See also my answers in your mail

So, when you configure IMail to use the external db, do any
tables get setup and do you see the root user already there in
the database?
[maaike] I already have my database in place.
I see in my imail (ics 2006), that the users I create during the
installation process are located in H:\Ipswitch\Collaboration
Suite\IMail\users\... and not in the db.

If not then IMail is not talking to the DB. The
most likely cause for this is not having the connection
information correct in the DSN:
http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/IM-19990622-DM01.htm
[maaike]
I think this is ok....

Or some other configuration problem:
http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/IM-20001219-DM02.htm

[maaike] i cannot open my Imail administrator, but odbc seems ok

My dsn connection is working fine, at least when I test my odbc
connection
It says TESTS COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY!
My odbc connection is with SQl server authentication

And I have another mailserver running with 8.22 and those server
has the
same dsn and that one is working fine.

Btw, do you know if I can open imail administrator without using
my browser?

Maaike

How would you rate your DB skills?
Did the reading get you any farther?
Are you evaluating IMail or are you an owner?
What OS is IMail installed on?

Feel free to provide other information...

Maaike,

Did you consult the Knowledgebase? If not, I can point the way,
see below...
Is this a new installation of IMail or over an existing version?

If a new install, Is IMail working OK when you use its internal
database? If it is, only then, should you think of trying the
external DB option.

What DB are you trying to use?

KB reading:
How do I use the ODBC connector?

There is much more... I searched for "odbc" and the above are the
ones that I think are likely to help...
