Greetings all,

We're building a new mail server (haven't decided between iMail and SmarterMail
yet) and are wondering if anyone has had experience running these two products
on the new dual-core CPUs.

There's been a lot of talk about CPU consumption being out of hand in the iMail
world (it happens to us a few times a week with web messaging), making
dual-core even more attractive.

The problem is that I've used a SmarterMail machine on a dual-proc 3.8 gHz Xeon
and it was so screaming fast my ears were burned. ;-)

The fastest dual-core available in a 2-socket Dell box is 2.8 gHz, so that
gives you 4 cores or 11,200 mHz. Trim that back 30 percent (just a guess)
because multiple procs/cores don't scale linearly, and you get a tad faster
than the combined 7600 mhz of the dual single-core 2.8's. So, I'm leaning
towards the 2 x dual core procs.

We're talking 2000 users, growing to 6000 within a couple years. Web messaging
usage fairly low (mostly pop), but unpredictable at this point.
