Bonno,

To force authentication, set the value ForceAuthOnExtraPort =1 on the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SMTPD32\Parameters.

Hi Travis,

I have read the BK article about IMail 8.2x but that only talks about adding
the port, not about forcing auth on it. Or maybe the article isn't written
clearly enough.

It states:
-------<quote>---------------------
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SMTPD32\Parameters.
To enable SMTP to listen on an alternate port, set the data for
EnableExtraPort to 1.

The default alternate port is 587 (as recommended by RFC 2476), but if you
wish, you can specify a different port by changing the data for ExtraPort.
Be sure to enter the new port number in decimal and not hexadecimal.
-------<quote>---------------------

So that is how one creates another port. But it does not specify whether
this is a auth only port. As a matter of fact the next part suggests that we
need to set that somewehere else:

-------<quote>---------------------
Once you have forced authenticated on the alternate port, until the email
client successfully authenticates, IMail will only accept the following
commands:
-------<quote>---------------------
So somehow one needs to force auth on that extra port as well. However this
KB article does not specify where that information can be found. :-(

  Exactly!

In iMail 2006 use the following - the GUI sets these values.

  EnableExtraPort=1

  ExtraPort=587

ForceAuthOnExtraPort=1 If you want to force auth, otherwise leave 0

In 8.2x here is your KB article:

Is this as simple as flipping the bit on EnableExtraPort in the registry?

  Travis,

Can Imail listen on both ports 25 and 587 simultaneously?

  Thanks

  Matt

Version 8.2x and 2006.0X will allow her to use port 587 as well. Just
configure it on up in Imail.

I'm suspecting it is because I don't see her hitting our firewall and not
even our server. I will check with her isp.

    Is her Port 25 blocked?

One of our users is trying to connect via smtp w/outlook 2000 and it's
getting this:

09:46:04: (Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection.
Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a
long period of inactivity.)

What can be happening? she can connect to pop3. I don't have any
entries in imail's log either. I only see pop3 entries but no smtp.
