Sure you can.

Start | Programs | Admin Tools | DNS
Right-click the DNS server, select properties
I think it's the third tab. The page contains a bunch of check boxes, one of which controls recursion.

Before you do, though, be sure you have a reliable DNS resolver and that everything in your plant is pointed to it.  You could use a caching MS DNS server that is blocked from outside inquiries by your firewall.

that doesn't sound like I can turn this off then?

Hi Gordon-

That is because you are using your own DNS servers to look up domains for the SMTP service, etc...  You will have to remove your DNS IPs from your Network Properties and/or the DNS field in the Imail administrator, and replace them with known-good resolvers elsewhere.

I check dnsstuff every now and again and it seems they have a new feature that checks for recursive lookups. This is enabled by default in MS DNS and allows anyone to use our DNS servers to do lookups. I would like disable this for obvious reasons but when I do imail has issues delivering mail and we get a lot of bounces.

What am I missing?
