What kind of NIC is in the server?  We always use Dell servers and several IMail admins on this list (including us) have reported very poor performance with Intel or Broadcomm Gb NICs and IMail.  With our last two upgrades, we had this problem and had to install a 3com NIC and the problems went away.

It doesn't make much sense, but it happened.  Several others (if they're still hanging around this list) can probably confirm it happened to them too.

Does the disk queue length clear out quickly?  Or does it generally stay
high until it spikes back to 100?  What does it indicate is the average?
