We are getting these also. It seems everyone got one of them, and the
subject looks to be a sequential number. Looks like a fishing expedition to
find valid addresses- perhaps they are using an automated process to remove
the numbers of all undeliverables, thereby finding valid IPs by the process
of elimination?
But then again we deny after 3 invalid user attempts, so they must have
found our addresses beforehand. I notice they are coming from different
IPs, as previously mentioned.
BTW sorry about the vacation emails (seyre). I tried to unsubscribe that
old user from the forums, but it must take some time. I have no idea why
this has started happening now- the user has been gone 3 years.

Yea, but gives. Are they maybe the successful deliveries of a dictionary
attack?? What's the purpose?

As far as I could trace some mails, they orginate from anywhere.
Some are listed in Blacklists as Dialups. So I think they are zombies.

We've also been getting these. Seems to be coming from France (could
be spoofed or zombied): 84.4.238.182 or 213.56.53.63

Hello,
I observe a growing number of text/HTML eMails with faked
mail-from Adress (mailfrom=mailto) comming in to our server.
The messages and the subject consists only of some numbers and the
mail originates from different server. The HTML-code of the mail is
clean and simple:
<html><body>
5556
<br>
</body></html>
Is this a new way how spammers test accounts? Or is this a
broken virus?
Do you have any information an this?
