I don't have any antivirius running on the box that is
scanning the imail directory.  I can try shutting down
the antivirus all together.

I did just findout the box did have a virus on it the
backdoor.trojan that norton did catch and quarantene. 
I have since rescanned with no problems.  could this
have cause something to be screwey?
