I do think #8 might be a bit dated.  With plenty of bandwidth, and
today's capabilities (the PDA's I've used download and display the
messages just fine), HTML should be fine.  Case in point, this message
was HTML to allow bolding of #5, so there is significant benefit to
draw attention to important items and for other simple formatting.

Change your subscription to digest mode and see if you still think HTML
is OK.
