In my opinion Ipswitch has choosen to definitively leave and let die any
version prior to 8.2 because they has discovered that Imail was installed
many many times more often then it was bought. So - even if it was not
desirable for Ipswitch - such a bug like the actual one now is a great
opportunity to go with paying customers and let them without the possibility
to activate the 8.2 version alone.
For sure it would have some colateral damage, mainly because Ipswitch has
made some decisions in the past (keywords: ICS & pricing) who has caused not
only a few paying customers to wait a little bit and not pay another time
for a SA.

I've bought my SA around 11 months ago when Ipswitch has announced the offer
for Imail2006. Unfortunately our 8.x is higly integrated in our hosting
enviroment, many users does use certain functionality and when I asked some
of them if they would or could switch with us to a new version (I showed
them our 2006-demo installation) their answer was mainly "no". Along with
still known and appearing problems our solution was to not to upgrade to
2006 at this time. Maybe it would be an idea to install a complete new
server with 2006 and let it run for one year beside the old 8.22 one.
