Yep, declude.junkmail@ and declude.virus@ are still fairly active.

David Barker at Declude is probably the best person to talk to about any issues you may have, and the possibility of upgrading.

On the Declude list there has been speculation that the symptoms you describe are caused by LFLF, CRCR, or LFCRLFCR instead of the proper CRLFCRLF at the end of the headers.  Declude is not handling these non-RFC-compliant messages well, thus added headers in the wrong places.  It might be possible to put a process in the chain between IMail and Declude to rewrite the messages, but I'm not sure if anyone has attempted that or not.

You might check the archives at mail-archive.com for more info on that.

Subject: Re: [IMail Forum] Broken image / header spam messages

Despite popular opinion Declude 1.8x works just fine (with the exception of the broken image problem, but I'm told even the latest versions have this problem too) with all flavors of Imail 2006.  I know there are those out there that don't want you to know that it works.  A friend keeps the latest versions of Declude on his server and my 1.8x version is many times faster than his newer version.

I've sent several messages to Declude over several months about upgrading.  I've been told several times they would get back with me but they never do.  I'm not a big fan Declude as a company but I won't air my beefs with them here.

I wasn't aware that the Declude list still existed... can't find anything about it on their web site.

To resolve the problem I've been working with Imail 2006.1 phrase filter, but I can't get consistant results out of it.  The phrase X-Spam-Tests-Fail** (changed it so it doesn't get filtered on my own system) is in the BODY of every one of these broken image files.  I tell the phrase filter to find that phrase in the message body, but sometimes it works and others it doesn't.  I don't use any other aspects of the built in spam tools in 2006.1.  The phrase filter should catch them, and it does sometimes, but not all the time.

Thanks for the response.

You're using 1.8x with IMail 2006?  I thought I had heard IMail 8.22 and 2006 wouldn't work with Declude 1.8x or 2.0x due to SMTP changes in IMail.

We've seen the symptoms you're describing with Declude 1.82 and IMail 8.15.  Not too often, but enough to be a concern.  I'm sure the answer would be to upgrade Declude.  I don't believe support is provided for 1.8x any more.  I'm not sure if Declude is still supporting 2.0x.

You might want to ask this on the Declude forum, though.

Subject: [IMail Forum] Broken image / header spam messages

I use an older version of Declude (1.8x) on Imail 2006.1.  I'm having big problems with messages that have broken images and headers.  There has to be a solution to this problem.

Declude processes the message and identifies them as spam, but the header info is put at the bottom of the message after a broken image.  As a result none of my rules or Declude actions are processed on the message.  Difficult to explain, but this happens hundreds of times every day.

Has anyone come up with a rule that will delete these messages?  100% of them are spam and I'd love to delete them all.

I don't want to spend a fortune on a new version of Declude.

Thanks,
Joe
