Just went through this process myself. I bought a new box, added 2003
server and all the OS updates and then installed 8.22. There is a KB on
moving your data to a new box at the same version,
http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/IM-19980116-JB11.htm

I made sure the IMail service worked properly and then installed the newest
version of 2006 and it worked like a charm. Tried an earlier version of
2006 on my production mail server and it did not go well at all.

Subject: [IMail Forum] Migration from 8.22 to 2006 on new box

We're getting ready to bite the bullet and move from 8.22 to 2006, on a
new box. I hope it's possible to do a brand-new install of 2006 (rather than
having to install 8.22 first), then copy over accounts/mailboxes from the
other box's 8.22 install. Possible? Has anyone done this? Any
advice/watchouts? A quick search of the archives, and the Ipswitch
knowledgebase, didn't turn anything up.

In fact I'm waiting on hold with Ipswitch right now to ask them this very
question...

I would love to find a "to do" punchlist of best practices (least pain)
for the migration steps. Any advice, or pointers to others' experiences
would be terrific. Thanks!

  Evan
