Hi Evan:

I just did that exact thing (including latest versions of Declude and
Sniffer) and the Imail part was painless. In my case, I also changed disk
drive letters - if you don't do that it's even easier.

My only "snafu" were the address books. There is a utility you need to run
to copy them from the old Text files to the new MS JET database.

The steps were:

- Install new Imail, specify the desired locations for Imail and Spool
folders.

- Stop all the Imail services on the new box

- Export the Imail registry on the old box (that's where all the domain,
users and aliases are kept. Depending on what you export, you may have edit
the exported text file to remove keys for the parent hive (e.g., that's NOT
domain specific). This way you won't override the 2006.1 system settings.

- Export the complete Imail registry on the NEW box (so that you have a
backup in case you go wrong somewhere).

- Go to your Imail folder in Windows explorer and locate all the subfolders
for all the domains you're hosting. Copy those to the equivalent place in
the installation.

Restart the services and use the Imail Admin to validate that you can see
your domains, users, aliases etc. Then access one of the domain users and
check the directory to make sure you can see their files. Then access some
mailboxes to confirm that you can see the content.

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

We're getting ready to bite the bullet and move from 8.22 to 2006, on a =
new box. I hope it's possible to do a brand-new install of 2006 (rather =
than having to install 8.22 first), then copy over accounts/mailboxes =
from the other box's 8.22 install. Possible? Has anyone done this? Any =
advice/watchouts? A quick search of the archives, and the Ipswitch =
knowledgebase, didn't turn anything up.

In fact I'm waiting on hold with Ipswitch right now to ask them this =
very question...=20

I would love to find a "to do" punchlist of best practices (least pain) =
for the migration steps. Any advice, or pointers to others' experiences =
would be terrific. Thanks!
