Don,

The only time (that I've ever seen) that IMail tries to create a new
database/table, is when a new Host/Domain is created. If I remember
correctly, the type of database used when this new host is created is
dependant on which is used by the Primary host. So if one had IMail db
selected on the primary host, it would create one in the registry, and if
external db is used, a new table in the db will be created for that new
host.

The password indicated is the default password, when a new one is not
specified.

Is someone/something trying to create new hosts using IMail Admin or by
running the CLU, addhost.exe?

I'm also wondering what would happen if access to the db is lost, then
re-established... Normally this would not cause a new db to be created from
what I have seen in the past, but I have seen various services (SMTP, POP3,
IMAP) start rejecting logins and email and other user specific access
things, when access to the db is restricted or lost. Normally a restart of
the services affected should get things going again.

When a new odbc db is created by IMail, it does add the root user
automatically. I'm pretty sure, no others, so something else had to happen
for other user accounts to get created (adduser.exe could do it, too).

The registry could have problems, too. If IMail had some problem reading the
domain definition, maybe it might try to create the host again? This one is
speculation, but registry is very important!

Here is a head start (and I don't have to type a lot!) if you don't know
much about IMail registry:

Subject: [IMail Forum] Intermittent Duplicate Database Creation

We have an intermittent issue whereas a duplicate IMail owned database gets
created intermittently and do not understand why it is happening. When
examining the duplicate database table that gets created, there is usually 1
or 2 accounts found and it is always the same exact password for the
accounts being X#1832. Has anyone seen or experienced this before?

We are running IMail 8.22 using Microsoft SQL server (not the built-in IMail
registry). Thanks.
