Hi list,
for those who think messages wich are not "pure technical" do not belong
here: please do NOT read any further.
-about the "CC and FtGate-trouble": no, I won't even tell off list how I
got around this.
I'm affraid "as is" I could loose the service-agreement because "tampering
with files" of course is a major crime and would / could end this. And I
can understand this.
But: something is wrong with Imail regarding this CC's. Ipswitch claims
it's NOT. There are several people experiencing the same problem. I found
out what causes the trouble and I even gave "enough clues" yesterday to
Ipswitch Support to have a look at it and fix it (or give an explanation
why they think it doens't need to be fixed). Now I'm waiting... ;-)
Someone else in the list wrote about Ipswitch Tech. Support "I never get
satisfying answers and sometimes they are rude...."
I'm affraid I have to agree. But... sometimes I can be (and will be) very
rude too ! This happens when I know I'm right and 'the other party' refuses
to take me serious.
For a "simple" question tech. sup. is good. But when more "deep" issues are
concerned I get the impression it's US (their cusomers) who know what we
are talking about and tech. sup. not knowing. IMHO this should not happen...
I'm a tech. sup. man myself, and sometimes, every once a year <g> I meet a
customers who knows more about something than I do. Hard to believe but thru
:-)
If I would start to talk to this customer the way we talk to most of our
customers (who indeed don't know what they are doing most of the time :-)
then I will LOOSE this customer.
After giving a rather 'rude' answer (if you want trouble you can get it:-)
to tech. sup. I didn't here from them. I hope they are (finally) looking
into some issues we mentioned having trouble with.
-About Imail in general: someone in the list wrote "Imail is a great program".
It is !
But there are some items which need to be fixed asap.
To name the two biggest:
-pop3 and fetching (larger) attachments: mail get's stuck, customers can
NOT read any mail, POP3-client says '0 messages'. I (and many others)
mentioned this months ago. It's still there.
-multiple domains and the 'nobody-alias': when hosting multiple domains,
when using the nobody-alias (and NO 'real users') then users can NOT mail
each-other between domains on the same Imail-system (non local user). So
Imail is not "real multi-domain" ! Or... the 'nobody-alias' - system should
be rebuild / retought from ground zero. (Because stuff as the CC - trouble
is also related to the 'nobody' -trick.
There are many other issues. I mentioned about 20 in e-mails to tech. sup.
6.02 update fixed about 4....
Some are "purely cosmetic" but it would be nice if they got fixed, no ?
And about the list-server: a 'topics in the header' is a feature most
competitive products offer. So IMHO Imail shoul add this too.
And when all this is fixed, Imail will indeed be the best product around.
-About POP3 :See below what somebody wrote. All I can say is: I reported
this months ago !
And our customers are still having this trouble with attahments. We still
have to answer their angry phones and we still have to do manual
interventions. This is taking too much time and makes my boss very angry !
To conclude: I like Imail. But there are 2 major "bugs". There are about 16
- 20 minor items, there are some "requests".
And tech. support could do better. If they only started taking our
"complaints" serious this would be a giant step for mankind :-)
