That sounds like a challenge to me, so I ran a test with two computers.
Both of the computers are on my home LAN, which is remote (by quite a few
miles and a different ISP) to our mail server at the office. Both computers
access the mailbox via IMAP and Outlook Express 6.
So, on computer A I opened a folder in OE, deleted some messages, and moved
some others to the Inbox. Then I went to computer B. There was no error
message, but computer B didn't show the changes right away. I could either
wait a while, or I could click away to another folder then click back, and
it would update itself to show the correct list of messages, without an
error. I then repeated the test in reverse by making some changes to the
message in the Inbox on computer B, then going back to computer A. Again,
there was no error message, but I could update A by clicking away from the
Inbox and then clicking back.
I've got clients who open OE for 4 or 5 people to the same mailbox, using
IMAP, without error messages. That's why I was so surprised to see the
error messages in Outlook 2004.

It is 100% the fact that you change the UID of a message in one client and
the other client didn't expect it. I guarantee it 10000000%. The is most
seen when one of those clients is running IMAP. Trust me on this one.
You
can replicate it very easily. Open IMAP on one client and open up your
Outlook Express/We Messaging on the other, mark a message as read or move
it. Now go back to the other client - you will get this error every time.

I have long used multiple Outlook Express installations on different
computers, all simultaneously opened to the same mailbox at the same time,
without any problems. However, once I began testing IMail 2006.2, we
began
have timeout problems. So then I tried Outlook and started getting these
other messages.
By the way, although I rarely use the webmail interface, I have done it a
number of times while other copies of Outlook Express were open on
different
computers (to the same mailbox), and never had any troubles.
Any other suggestions?
Ben

You can't have web messaging and IMAP open at the same time - or any two
mail clients at the same time.

Subject: [IMail Forum] IMAP error: The UID of a message changed
unexpectedly
Hi,
We're been testing 2006.2 for a few months now, but continue to
experience
problems with IMAP and Outlook Express. So I recently started testing it
with Outlook 2003 and I immediately ran into this error:
Microsoft Outlook
The UID of a message changed unexpectedly. This typically indicates a
server bug. Your program may not function properly after this.
MsgSeqNum 81: Previous UID: 987238109, New UID: 987238118
Protocol: IMAP
Server: mail2.bcwebhost.net
Port: 143
Your server has reported a UID which does not comply with the IMAP
standard.
This typicall indicates a server bug. Your program may not function
properly after this.
MsgSeqNum 80: New UID: 987238117, Prev UID: 987238116, Next UID:
987238109
Protocol: IMAP
Server: mail2.bcwebhost.net
Port: 143
Basically, I've been using Outlook at the office and Outlook Express
everywhere else (home, notebook, etc.). The error shows up when I come
in
to the office with Outlook running all night.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Ben
