Thanks for the heads up on Lyris. Unfortunately, we are stuck with Imail for at least another year as we have renewed our maintenance agreement with them to give them ONE last opportunity to try to bring the latest version in line with other generally accepted e-mail program standards. I should have stated the times I mentioned are on an older server, P III with dual processors and 1 gig of memory and it runs perfectly fine with the OLD version of Imail. Because of a recent investment in a very expensive server, designed to Handel the latest version of Imail which, at least as far as we are concerned, does not yet behave well because of the full administrative level of access required for the .NET programming, we have tabled all further expenditures with regard to our e-mail services for the next year as well, again, to give Imail the opportunity to bring Imail into full compliance with the capabilities and security of programs like SmarterMail and Lyris. If they haven't done that by next June (2008), we're gone. IT costs much more than Imail but it handles list/newsgroups and chat rooms very well. Bad addresses are removed on whatever criteria you set, soft bounce vs hard bounce vs reset interval. Each list owner can get delivery reports so you know who is bouncing, how many are bouncing and if they are on hold and so on. It really does just about everything you want. We also have the ability for those using PLAIN TEXT MESSAGES to SUBSCRIVE or UNSUBSCRIBE to one of them without the use of any special software, just using list commands and responding to the message using PLAIN TEXT MESSAGES ONLY (imail still chokes on html and rich text messages that are used for list server commands. I currently have a listserv running on SmarterMail and it is ok but we need something more sophisticated/robust. Having been a long time user of WhatsUp and very happy with it, it seems natural to look at IMail. Our listserv is around 800 subscribers and I would expect to see 1000 or more in the next year. I doubt we would ever go over 1500 at any future date. Out current problem is speed. It takes forever to process messages (maybe 30 minutes or so). We need for it to be just a couple of minutes so actual discussion can take place. There would also be a couple of other lists hosted with less than 100 subscribers. (Note the hardware and pipe is not an issue.) Also, does the listserv offer an archive of messages? Thanks for any help with my questions.
