I think you are exactly right.  Went through this issue with MS tech support re: Outlook express 5.0x not showing certain mail headers. (Worked correctly in OE 4.0x)   MS determined that the from field has a leading space (or something similar). OE wouldn't display the header because it didn't conform to official email RFC's  According to them they had adhered more closely to the RFC's in OE 5.0x than in OE 4.0x, thus these messages were no longer 'legal'.  This reasoning also let's them off of the 'its-a-bug' hook, thus no fix.   Our users are now concious of when there is discrepancy in the Unread Items count next ot the mailbox in the folder view and the actual number of unread messages in the hearder list.
