Thanks Darin. I had thought about restarting the services, but to be honest
did not. So I will do that and see whether that helps. If I understand
what you are saying, if I want to allow them to attach a 30MB file, I need
to have it set so that it will allow 40-45MB?

Also, (for anyone to answer) will the newer version of Imail require a
restart anytime you make these types of changes?

Encoding usually adds 25-33% to the file size in my experience, so the
message should have been within the limits.

I would try retrieving all mail from the mailbox, deleting the mailbox file,

and seeing if the problem persists. Mailboxes don't get corrupted often,
but it does occur.

I don't know for certain, but with 8.22 it may require an SMTP or Queue Mgr
service restart to take effect. Not so with earlier versions, but some
setting changes require a service restart starting with 8.22.

Darin.

I seem to recall that when attachments are added to a message the actual
message size becomes about 2 times the size of the total message plus the
attachments when it is created into the message to be transmitted.

Therefore, if they have 100 meg in files, they will need to be able to send
messages that are at least 200 meg to accommodate the prepared file when the
message is send.

Thanks Bill. I did suggest using a file service, and will tell them that is
the only way they can do it.

We only offer 100 MB mailboxes because mail is consuming more and more
bandwidth. People think nothing of emailing files like you describe these
days. We tell people that files of that size are best sent using a file
service not email.

Subject: [IMail Forum] Message Size problems

Hi everyone -

About a month ago, I implemented size restrictions on our mail service for
mailbox size and message size. There have been no problems at all until
yesterday.

I have a user who is saying that someone is having problems sending them an
email with an attachment. I confirmed that they have several files, all of
which are 10MB+ (my calculations are that they are 165MB in total) and that
they are sending the attachments in separate emails, none of which exceed
the maximum message size. However, they are getting an error message that
the mailbox is full or they have exceeded the message size.

The settings for the domain that I have are as follows:
Default Max Mailbox Size: 262144000 (250MB)
Single Message Max. Size: 36700160 (35MB)
Max. Outbound Msg. Size: 20971520 (20MB)

The person's mailbox has only a few KB of files stored in it, so that
shouldn't be a problem.

I hate to remove the restrictions on the mailbox, but not sure what else to
tell them.

Any thoughts?

Todd
