I have a combined web and mail server running windows 2000 server, iis 5 and
i-mail 6, the unlimited, registered version. I am hosting about a dozen
domains, both www and mail, and most of these have various forms that are
configured to submit to inside as well as outside e-mail addresses. To parse
the forms to the smtp server I'm using mailto.exe for winnt.
The problem I noticed is that if, within the form, I set the value of the
smtp server to mail.domain.com - i.e. using the imail smtp services - any
submissions where the recipient is an e-mail address residing on the server,
arrives fine. If the recipient is an outside e-mail address, the message
just seems to disappear into thin air.
If I change the smtp value to mail.myhost.com - as in the smtp server of my
ISP, outside the server, all messages arrive where they should. However, I'm
curious as to why i-mail smtp in the case of form submissions only delivers
mail to inside addresses.
Is there a security setting for i-mail smtp I should be aware of?
Thanks for any advice.
