Matt, As internet grows exponentially, the existing IP address ranges (a.b.c.d) get exhausted *very* quickly. RIPE, the european IP coordinator, too urges the european providers to use IP-less virtual servers. With modern internet software (IMail among them), this requirement can be met easily. There are a few accepted reasons to use fixed IP addresses, VPN among them. Our ISP services, had to change from fixed IPs to IP-less services which was quite a hassle (it affects every single customer). Hovewer, we ISP's need to bear some responsibility and show that we care for the internet.
