That's right, it allows the user to get to the webmail site without
specifying a port number, but still runs on said port.
A site I maintain uses IIS and IMail web messaging together on one machine.
The main web site is www.domain.com and we've got webmail.domain.com for
web mail. The webmail site is basically just an index file with two frames
(100%,*). The main frame loads login.cgi. The frames also hide the port and
session info. It doesn't solve the problem of using non-standard ports, but
it helps prevent confusion for the users.
BTW, you may want to turn off the auto receipt notification in your mail
client.
