This has probably been covered, but I just joined the list, so please bear
with me.

I don't understand how the virtual hosts work. First, my email server and
web server are different machines, and I can't afford to bind two IPs per
domain name, so I'm trying to set up virtual hosts without IPs. I'd like
to understand why I need to tell my clients that their "user id" needs to
be their full email address. I understand the system needs to know which
user (since it's essentially dumping all of the addresses to the same
location), but WHY? Do email clients not send that information (the
domain) when asking to access an email box? I have been setting my DNS
with an MX for each domain, and an A record for the "mail" pointing to the
email server's IP. This would allow some one to pick up email "at" their
domain, relying on the mail server to understand the request. I guess,
what I'm asking is "If my webserver can make these distinctions, why can't
my email server?".

Also, the web template system has me scratching my head. First, in order
to keep a semblance of organization, I want to create a folder for each
domain. Second, I'd like to put all of the "accounts" in a subfolder of
the "top directory" (in this case D:\IMail). So, (can I do this?) how does
it affect my web template system? Also, does not the web template system
accept subfolders (ie, the Images folder I set up for my attempts at
customization doesn't get copied when I do the "Get Default" command).

Finally, I would think this existed in the Knowledge base... Does anyone
have a list of email clients and version numbers that don't work with
IMail? Since the manual said that not all will work, I immediately went
looking to find out what wouldn't.

Thanks in advance,
Oblio
