Hmmm... I have other rules that fwd to "VIRUS" and they work okay (they
search the subject line etc.)
I have tried all sorts of combinations... e.g. just using the wildcard and
extension name, even using the punctuation switch for the period (/p), and
nothing seems to work. I really feel like I'm overlooking something here...

I just found that my filter also has the first period, but it is working. I
send mine to :nul though.
