Personally I do not often "add 1000s of records", so don't listen to those
who tell me how I can't do it easily<g>.
I also do not know why you can't simply edit the file that NT DNS can use
for it's database. You have the option to read from a file or from the
registry. You also have the dnscmd tool with or without scripting.
Bigots, whether OS or otherwise, always have some esoteric argument as for
why theirs is the One True Way.
Finally, I'd like to see the "simple text file" with 1000s of records. I'll
wager it isn't as "simple" as you imply. Don't forget the reverse zones too.

Editing a simple text file or writing a quick script to handle thousands of
records can be done in a fraction of the time of 25 mouse clicks and screen
refreshes.
But hey I say.. you can do that in Windows 2000 without that darn ol
"sucky" GUI as one stated..
Administration from the Command Prompt
You can use the command-line tool Dnscmd.exe to perform most of the tasks
that you can perform from the DNS console. For example, you can create,
delete, and view zones and records; reset server and zone properties; and
perform routine administration operations such as updating the zone,
reloading the zone, refreshing the zone, writing the zone back to a file or
Active Directory, pausing and resuming the zone, clearing the cache,
stopping and starting the DNS service, and viewing statistics.
You can also use Dnscmd.exe to write scripts and for remote administration.
For more information about Dnscmd.exe, see Windows 2000 Support Tools Help.
For information about installing and using the Windows 2000 Support Tools
and Support Tools Help, see the file Sreadme.doc in the directory
\Support\Tools on the Windows 2000 operating system CD.
But instead of looking it up and figuring it out they just say "It can't be
done.." wrong again..
