If you have an existing installation of Imail 5.X and you want to change the
method for authentication, the server doesn't update itself correctly. Case
in point: We have created an ODBC.DLL for our customers to use in order to
authenticate off an SQL database of a special structure. If a customer
already owns a copy of Imail and set it up to use a local database, when
they change the external database dll to point to our dll, the users will
show up just fine in Imail administrator, but every time a user tries to log
in the server gives him a message saying 'Unable to Authorize'. It appears
that the routine that looks up users in the Imail Administrator is not the
same one that is used to authenticate users. The only solution we have
found it to uninstall Imail and reinstall, this time specifying an external
dll from the beginning. Then there are no problems whatsoever. Is there a
registry key that is not getting updated? Customers do not like it when I
tell them they have to uninstall their live mail server. We know it is not
our dll, since it works fine from a clean installation.
