postfix handles in/out with INternet, and Imail sends/receives only with
the postfix gateway, which itself has no mail accounts, it's only a relay
hub. Imail is still the mail server with the mailboxes.

We've got about 10 people on the IMGate list who have got it up and running
and I think a few of them have never touche anything but NT. So it's not
that hard.

That's similar to what I'm proposing: you run your list on CF and have CF
dump the list delivery of Imail which relays to Internet. Imail is a much
stronger mail server than CF's mail support.

that's another possbiility. you run your lists on Imail, while also
keeping your current Imail server functions you've been running for 2
years, and Imail delivers its outgoging to an mail gateway machine.

no. And I really don't think you're going to gain much by writing to
Imail's spool files, even if you can figure out the spool file format, the
file naming conventions, the file locking tactics. Delivery over SMTP at
LAN speeds between local machines will be fast enough. The delay is not
delivering to the outgoing queue of Imail, the delay is delivering the
1000's of msgs to Internet servers.

No, I'd keep CF on its own machine and have a good CF mail tag shoot the
outgoing list traffic over SMTP to Imail for relaying to Internet.

If you can "pre-sort" the outgoing mail in CF so that you group all msgs
destined for one mail server into one outgoing msg, that would help Imail
because Imail would only have to contact the destination server once to
deliver 50 msgs in one SMTP sesssion rather than in 50 SMTP sessions.
