what does that mean, as compared with Imail doing it? your mail program
sends right to their mail server?

the ">" is what the Imail "SMTP client" emit, the non-">" lines are what
the SMTP client receives from the "SMTPD server".

Their mail server accepts your mail from: but rejects on the RCPT
TO:. Some kind of filtering going on, probably. They didn't say "why" so
you don't know how to fix it. Maybe send a mail to their postmaster@ or
since you can send mail "directly", try that and ask the recipient to get
their mail admin involved.
