Dave,
I have not seen anything in NS settings that would cause it to 'Force SMTP
Auth', like OE and others have. From what I understand, NS when sending a
message to the SMTP service, looks at the EHLO response, sees if the server
supports it, and uses AUTH as needed.
I did a quick test with my NS client (V4.7) and IMail (relay for Addresses
and none entered) and see these lines in the log:
07:07 14:08 SMTPD(00D4056E) [156.21.x.y] connect 156.21x.y port 4195
07:07 14:08 SMTPD(00D4056E) [156.21.x.y] EHLO something.ipswitch.com
07:07 14:08 SMTPD(0000006C) Authenticated test, session treated as local.
07:07 14:08 SMTPD(00D4056E) [156.21.3.207] MAIL
FROM:<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
07:07 14:08 SMTPD(00D4056E) [156.21.3.207] RCPT
TO:<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
07:07 14:08 SMTPD(00D4056E) [156.21.3.207] C:\IMail\spool\D1ca056e.SMD 722
Test was the name of the account in NS. True, this was all on one computer,
so not a duplicate of wht you might be doing. Guess the best I can tell you
to do, is check the log for lines like this:
07:07 14:08 SMTPD(0000006C) Authenticated test, session treated as local.
during the time you are making NS send a message.
