To learn a little PERL, I'm playing around with "saka.pl" ( Smtp Auth Keep
Alive ).
The concept is dumb@ass basics. Write PERL script
1. telnet to imail.mydomain.com:25,
2. opening ceremonies (not validated by saka, expected to work)
2. send AUTH CRAM-MD5 and see what happens
3. decide whether Imail's SMPT AUTH is dead or alive
4. if alive,
4.1 sleep x minutes
4.2 goto 1.
5. if dead,
5.1 send "RCPT TO: [EMAIL PROTECTED]"
5.2 write-to-saka-log "date & time"
5.2 sleep 30 seconds
5.2 got 1.
where the saka@ is a program alias pointing to saka.bat:
net stop "Imail SMTP server"
net start "Imail SMTP server"
I am assuming that PERL + saka will run on the Imail machine.
Where am I?
I had free NT PERL Win32 already from www.ActiveState.com for my
http://IMDeliver.MEIway.com project.
I found the Perl module for telnet here:

My pb is that I don't have a trace of an SMTP dialog where Imail SMTP AUTH
fails so I don't know how to do step 3 above.
Here's a snippet from my Eudora log where SMTP AUTH works:

I don't want to spend tons of time on this, since I don't know whether
anybody is even interested (after all, it's much fun to bitch and whine and
menace for a refund) or when Ipswitch will fix yet-again their SMTP AUTH pb
in the next day or so, so I'd like somebody to trace their Imail server is
Eudora logging on (can't debug/trace on the Imail end) and capture an SMTP
AUTH failing sequence so I can see at exactly what step of the 8 steps
above Imail is hanging.
I'll keep plugging away, maybe checking at each step isn't too hard, but I
really wouldn't want integrate a CRAM-M5 PERL module so saka could say
something CRAMmish back to Imail's 334 line.
ie, it would be simplest for saka if saka sent "AUTH CRAM-MD5" and Imail
failed right there with no response.
So, peepul, where exactly is Imail's SMTP AUTH hanging? step 2. step 4.
step 6. ????
