Wise,

Since Len could not answer the first question, I will. Everything else he
gave you is 'on the money'!

A List Server will not send multiple times, to all other users, just because
there is a 'bad' address in the list files. However, incorrect data in the
list files can cause the delivery process (SMTP32), to have problems and
that might cause these symptoms. I've never seen the data go bad, when uses
'subscribe' via email (imailsrv), but I have see this, when the List's files
are manipulated manually, or by some other program. You need to 'fix' the
user.lst and user.txt files. User.lst should have lines that look like this:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]<CRLF>
or
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]><CRLF>
where you would not see the <CRLF> but this is equivalent to hitting the
'Enter' key.
Users.txt should look like:
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Daniel Donnelly<CRLF>

So eliminate any characters that do not belong (spaces in the wrong place,
can cause this!).
If you cannot see anything wrong, there is the remote possibility that some
invisible character is in the file. To find out, rename both files and
create new ones, with just one or 2 addresses and test. If that works, then
you need to recreate both files manually. Do NOT 'cut and paste' from the
orginal file, as that could bring the bad character back into your new file.

With the symptoms you describe, you may have SMTP32 processes that are not
closing. Open Task manager and look for SMTP32 and if you see more than just
a few, then you need to stop them. Either restart the computer, or get
'kill.exe' from the NT resource kit, and type 'kill smtp32' to stop all
SMTP32 processes.

Subject: [IMail Forum] bad list address

> ok. my question is...

in the list, it kept sending out the same email message to everybody on the
list (around twenty times or so). This is very annoying. Is there anyway to
solve this problem???

spam from there...) this is very unsecure. She doesn't understand how the
spammer send out the SPAM. how do they send that out that many emails???
from my understanding, spammers are not actually logging into (cracking
passwords) our server. It is using mail programs like the one in Netscape
and IE that provides SMTP and don't check for username and password. am I
correct?

keep using this mail server... we should switch.....
