Len,
I'm not exactly sure what you are asking me, but here is some info that
should answer:
If one telnets to IMail SMTP service (SMTPD), it will return the value found
in the 'Official Host Name' field, if you have not made the Registry change.
If you say EHLO/HELO, it will return the value in "OHN', too.
Aliases are not shown in any form, afaik, but when one uses the VRFY/RCPT
commands, one can check for other 'hostnames' (read aliases). So if you
issue:
VRFY [EMAIL PROTECTED]
if would say 'OK' (this is one of the alias on our server) and if you send:
VRFY [EMAIL PROTECTED]
it would also say 'OK', as this is the 'OHN'.
And since we have other Aliases, this would return OK as well:
VRFY [EMAIL PROTECTED], but how would you guess or find the 'hub' name?
Maybe via DNS, and the SOA records (it is the NS name).
Could even say OK for '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' if 'someotherdomain.com' is
one of the Aliases.
The SMTP delivery process (SMTP32) uses the OHN as the 'hostname' in any of
its conversations with other SMTP services.
