I can't see why not, because it explains exactly what needs to be done in the DNS to
add virtual IPs.

Many ISPs do/did use "smtp.ispname.com" and "pop3.ispname.com". If someone needs to
use your mailserver, and they don't know the name, those are what they are going to
try! I assume the same would hold with IMAP.
As for webmail, there are a number of places that like to have non-www subdomains
describing what users are connecting to. I don't really like it, but it's fairly
popular.
