Have you looked at clustering for the SQL server ( this definitely does work
and automates the failover.

Also how does Server1 and Server2 keep the c:\imail directory in sync. Could
use Fibre channel I believe though I do not know a whole lot about it apart
from it is expensive. Aong the same lines, putting your data drive on an
external SCSI RAID array would be useful as then you can just swop the SCSI
cable on the external array to make the drive available on the other server,
if the data is not corrupt.

You also have to make sure that the imail registry is kept in sync between
these two servers so domain level changes are kept in sink. Though you could
do this from a backup tape.

Subject: [IMail Forum] Mail failover config

Hi list

I wonder if this configuration could be real, and give some failover.

Server 1, running IMAIL ( C:\IMAIL ), all domains in External DB, all IMAIL
services running.

Server 2, with IMAIL, with same directory ( C:\IMAIL ) as Server 1. All
IMAIL services stopped.

Server 3, MS SQL Server, having all domains tables from 1.

Server 4, MS SQL Server, replicated from Server 3.

Situation:
All subdir under Server 1 ( IMAIL ), is replicated to Server 2 ( IMAIL )
from time to time.
All IMAIL Databases in Server 3 are replicated to Server 4 ( By SQL
itself ).

CRASH!!! Server 1 died.
a. Starting all mail serviced in 2.
b. Changing MX records from MX 1 to MX 2.
c. Is everyone happy ?

CRASH !!!! Server 3 died.
a. Point DSN to Server 4.
b. Is everyone happy ?

What do you think ? Is this config reliable ? Is failover ( with human
'touch' )
I mean......should work ???

Regards

Andres.-
