Len,

Here's the problem:  I tried using the "relay for addresses"  option as you describe below.  However, I can't get the server to relay for local users (i.e. jmail which is installed on the server).  I have a cable/dsl router, and when I put in the default mailserver IP (192.168.1.3) as one of the addresses in "relay for addresses",  local mail is not going through.  IMail sees local mail as coming from the router's gateway IP.  On the other hand, if I put in the router's gateway IP (192.168.1.1) in "relay for addresses",  then all mail goes through without SMTP auth (both remote and local).

Any Suggestions???

David

Subject: Re: [IMail Forum] accept.txt

I'm running IMail 6.04, with IP'less virtual domains.  I'm trying to tighten
security by choosing either the no relay option, or the relay for address
option.  However, I can't seem to get these to work with an accept.txt file.

imail 6 u/g, search for accept.txt, page 116

Using the accept.txt file. The accept.txt file lets you name remote
hosts and users that you want the IMail Server to accept as “local”
hosts and users. This file can be used with the Relay for Local Hosts
Only
and Relay for Local Users Only options.

.... but since "relay for local hosts/users" is next to useless ...

The best Imail security setting is "relay for addresses" + UNcheck "Disable SMTP AUTH reporting", and make everybody set their mail client pgms for SMTP AUTH.
