This worked fine for me when I tried it (with an alias, not a user account
as the first address and both within that domain and finally when the user
account was external to the first domain).
Is the alias defined as a complete email address?
Don't forget, that Vacation can 'remember' who it sent to, so it won't send
a second vacation message to the same sender!

I have an address under a vhost domain pointing at an account under another
vhost domain that has a vacation message set. However the vacation message
feature does not seem to work if one sends an message to the alias address.
