The IMail hook for external antivirus programs requires that you write a
program to interface to it. Your program gets passed the information that
SMTP32.EXE would normally get; you have to parse the information, check to
see if it is valid, lock one of the files, etc. If you are a programmer,
it may be fun to try.
In addition to my new anti-spam program, I am working on a program to allow
you to use any command-line virus scanner (the inexpensive kind, as opposed
to the SMTP-based ones that are prohibitively expensive) with IMail. This
would allow you to scan all E-mail (which current SMTP virus scanners don't
always do), while also allowing for easier installation and costing
less. It is still in development, but preliminary information is available
at http://www.declude.com .
