I have a few questions on how Imail and email works, in general... Please
let me know if I am correct about the following "assumptions."
When Imail (or any general email server) tries to send a message to, say,
[EMAIL PROTECTED], It finds an MX record for Pepsi in the world of DNS
(gateway2test.pepsi.com), so it assumes that pepsi.com exists. Then it
tries to connect to the primary mail server to deliver said message. How
does it connect? Telnet to port 25? Some other protocol?
Now, let's say that the mail server for Pepsi is DOWN!!! My Imail server
will then place the aforementioned message into the queue. How many seconds
will Imail wait before it thinks the remote mail server is unavailable and
place the mail message into the queue? 30 seconds? 60 seconds? And where
can I change this value?
My problem is that the Firewall that my Imail server is behind is SLOW!!!
and things are getting stuck in the queue when they probably should be
getting sent out. I am not looking for a fix to my slow firewall problem, I
just put that in there for background info.
