can't prevent it

can't do. best you can do is run them both but on different :ports.

It always does this

yep, :(. Imail has no "listen-on" option to restrict which ip's it uses.
>It sound strange wanting to run another SMTP service on the same box as Imail,
Anything is possible with Imail admin's! vbg
Precisely, what you want is just an "SMTP client" service for sending
mail, while leaving Imail to provide "SMTPD server" on port :25.
An SMTP client can and does use any port for sending, while :25 is
the "well-known" port reserved for tcp/SMTP service.
btw, if you spend some time with the imail logs, you see SMTP clients
connecting to Imail on port :25 from the other machines' ports
above:1000 ports.

You can run MS's SMTP srv on port :whatever while Imail receives on
:25. The Imail's and MS SMTP SVC's "SMTP clients" will use whatever
non :25 tcp ports they find open for sending mail.
>(I.e. we have some hosts that don't require this message, and others

You can do MS SMTP as above, with CDONTS I think, or use BLAT command
line tool, or use JMAIL COM object, or go commercial with
serverobjects.com ASPmail or ASPQmail. (find those on www.google.com)
