errors in imail log?
how many SMTP client/delivery processes running when this happens?
maybe a killer msg in the imail\spool file? Every time an SMTP
process picks it up, the SMTP process would hang, etc, etc, leaving
you a bunch of SMTP processes in memory but no mail deliveries.
