As of today, the only realistic option is expensive ($5,000+) SMTP-based
virus scanners, such as McAfee's WebShield SMTP, Trend Micro, and a few
others. They work well for some people, and not so well for others. I
believe all of them force you to decide between being an open relay
(inviting spammers to hijack your mail server), or letting some viruses
through (for users that aren't able to come from a trusted IP address; they
would have to authenticate with IMail, bypassing the virus scanning).
There are, however, two better solutions that will soon be available. Len
is planning to add virus scanning to his IMGate gateway
(http://imgate.meiway.com), and my company is working on a program that
will allow you to use a standard (inexpensive) virus scanner with IMail
(more details available at http://www.declude.com ).
