Never heard of one.
It's quite a complex phenomenon with a ton of stuff going on simultaneously.
From what I've read, most high volume (unix) mail servers are disk
bound, processing the queue tree (on unix systems they're smart
enough not to put x000 files in one directory and instead build a
queue directory tree). We all know NT sucks bad after 250 files in
one directory. How many files are in your \spool dir?
Some things to try to optimize disk throughput and Imail's multitasking:
1. Remove all files from the \spool directory (rotate out the logs
files every 00:01 o'clock), don't let them accumulate in \spool.
2. use ispclean.exe to remove all dead \spool files before than a
date (after you've rotated the logs out to somewhere else:!!).
3. Have Imail Imail\spool on its own NT disk drive and controller. Do
not put the NT swap file here. This is reserved for just the queue
and the logging (let's hope Imail7 let's us separate the location of
spool and log file)
4. Have the mailboxes on their own disk drive and controller. Avoid
having one controller/drive fight with itself for queue\logs\mailbox access.
5. Use buffered SCSI (128 megs on-board), not IDE. If IDE, make sure
it's in DMA mode, not PIO (this really eats your CPU MHz).
6. Have plenty of memory to run plenty of SMTP processes.
7. Have a fast DNS, on a separate machine, dedicated to the mail
server, with lotsa RAM for caching so when you
btw, Anthony, all the above would apply to you qmail+linux box.
