Andrew,

Pretty hard to tell from this! And the restart has cleared the problem and
any evidence except log files. So I guess I say start checking the IMail and
NT Event logs to see if there is any time correlation between an error
message and the time the problem was noticed (and before).

Since the clients were using either POP3 or IMAP4 and Web MSG seemed to be
working, I wonder if something happened to either of those 2 services?
Suggest you check their state and maybe stop/start each to see which might
'fix' the problem, instead of restarting the whole computer. Of course, that
means it will have to happen again.....

Can I also assume you tried telnet to port 25? Did you try the POP3 and
IMAP4 ports? What was the response to the telnet sessions that did not work
(connection refused, timeout, etc...)?
