The only "official" way is to log on to the web messaging.
It would be possible via other methods, though. One method would be to
figure out the file format of the main.uid file (I think that's the right
one) that stores whether or not a message has been read. Another would be
something involving storing in the cookie the size of the main.mbx (and
other mailboxes).
