When the primary server goes off-line the backup Mail server will get
the mail via DNS configuration.
>>
Setup a backup server with a higher MX value:
Currnet
yourdomain IN MX 10 yourimail.com.
CHANGE
yourdomain IN MX 10 yourimail.com.
yourdomain IN MX 20 yourbackupimail.com.
SMTP servers will try first yourimail since it's MX record is 10 and lower
than yourbachkupiamil.com. If yourmail.com is down, then mail will go to
yourbackupimail.com. When yourimail.com comes back on line it will get mail
from yourbackupimail.com.
However, users can't get mail from yourbackupimail.com.
