I recently did this and with an external database, it was no fun at all. If
it is using Imail's registry to store the user information, I think it is as
simple as changing the information in the Imail administrator. If you use
an external database, you can move the folder to the d drive but you will
have to move the users over using a SQL command for each table (domain
name).
I couldn't find any documentation either and calling Ipswitch didn't help as
their tech support told me (in error) that they would not support having
users outside of the Imail directory or on any other drive separate from
Imail. That was later retracted as the tech support person I spoke with was
in error on that issue.
It works fine for me. I had to run the command for 30 domains but it was
far better then losing those users passwords and manually deleting them and
recreating them in the new directory.

Subject: [IMail Forum] Moving the Users Folders
Setting up a new IMail server on NT 4.0 box ...........just one
question...
I have 2 drives .. C: is a 10GB and D: is 30GB
Can I install IMail onto C: but have the users folders on D: for the
primary host or do these folders have to stay within the IMail folder.
Knowledge base reveals nothing and IMail won't let me change the path
for the users folders
