Scenario-We are moving ISP's and resetting the DNS tables for my domain fred.com (as an example). I am setting up IMail server on a dedicated box here in my office. We are housing the web server on one box and the mail on another box. We are using our ISP for DNS servers so they will take care of everything for fred.com. I have 2 things that need to be clarified--assuming my domain is fred.com 1) The "Host Name" takes on the name of the machine which is much different than that of the domain name I want for the mail server. During setup when it asks for "the full registered official host name" do I enter fred.com, mail.fred.com, or let it default to the machine name??? When I click on "localhost" in the admin interface, should I remove the host name that exists there??? I just seem to have a couple of concepts slightly mixed up here. 2)We are not setting up our own DNS but referring to the dns of our ISP. What do I tell the isp when it comes to mail.fred.com. Willit autoimatically change when fred.com does? What do they have to enter in the MX record? the A record? the PTR record? Will this be the ip of the imail box??? Thanks for your help.
