there are tools to export from NT SAM to text, and then import to SQL
with DTS. I haven't done this (still in stone SAM) but somebody here
will help you

yes, they are just text files.
Also, while you'r at it, keep your mailbox partition on a different
controller+disk from your Imail /spool partition, if possible.
