This one may be trivial ... but maybe someone would like to know. I'm running NT 4.0 SP6a 128bit and Backup EXEC v7.3, not sure if anyone else has found this error, but in Imail v6.0 - 6.05a (prior to the latest patch) I have been backing up the entire Imail directoy .... Since I installed the latest patches I've been getting Dr. Watson sharing violations on SMTP32.EXE ...... In this event the smtp svc would shut down, I'd have to reboot the server to bring it back online. After the third day of troubleshooting I decided to selective backup the server, thus ommiting the '"root" imail folder where the file shareing error was occuring, but backing up all sub-folders .... since this was done, I have not recieved this error again.... Not sure why though in the prior version of SMTP32.EXE this did not cause a issue before. Anyway ...... no more errors. Backup exec, when running will take control of the files if in use.... lock it ... back it up .... and then unlock it again .... I figure it's safe to conclude that Imail SMTP32.EXE takes a proirity hold on the service ... hence "hateing" you if it's disturbed. In talking to tech support ( BTW, nice job guys ... excellant support call ), my assumption was correct. solution: Don't backup EXE's ..... within Imail..... If some one would like to use this as a FAQ note for Imail and use me as the author this would be great .....
